Description
A colour photograph of a Grand Canal Sunset viewed from the Ponte dell’Accademia in Venice, Italy.
I have been to Venice many times and always return to this bridge, one of only four that cross the iconic Grand Canal. I like to stand upon it and watch the comings and goings of the city traffic beneath me. Everything in Venice is transported by boat — people (dead people too), furniture, mail and building materials all move the same way — and the subsequent lack of cars and trucks helps the city retain a certain timeless quality I have always thought. The chapel in the distance is the stunningly beautiful Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute and it occupies what must be one of the most amazing spots in the whole of Europe, if not the world.
