13/ 100 Car Roof Dog
Dogs love to be up high. In India they are found just about anywhere except for the actual ground. Scooters, Tuk Tuks, rubbish piles, dustbins, boxes, sacks (I have photographs to come of all of these elevated sleeping locations). As the photograph above shows, one prime location is the roof of a car.
I think the dogs like to be higher up, off of the ground, for safety and security. You’re not likely to be run over by a car, not are you likely to be stood upon by a cow – a more likely hazard than you might imagine.
I have no idea, however, why they would choose the roof of a car that is the temperature of the sun on a day that was already too hot for those of us used to living in the northern reaches of Europe. Especially as the owners of the cars are not generally overjoyed at having a dog smearing it’s muddy, greasy, feet all over the car bonnet and windscreen each time it decides to go for a nap. Every now and again a chap will appear, brandishing a stick to scare them away. It works well, for a few minutes…
Luckily for car owners, someone has invented anti-dog protection for cars. These large sections of plastic spikes are similar to the spikes used around buildings to keep the pigeons at bay, or the ones used by miserable people to stop homeless people sleeping under shelter.
These spiked mats don’t work though. One day I saw a dog lazing up against the windscreen on a spike-free bit of a car, completely unbothered by the owner’s attempt to keep their pride and joy dog free.
